Achieving Climate-Neutrality in Road Transport through the Contribution of Renewable Sustainable Fuels – An urgent comment on the revision of the vehicle CO2 standards
A coalition of 12 organisations urgently asks the European Commission to recognise the contribution of renewable sustainable fuels in vehicle CO2 standards. On 2 July, in a joint letter addressed to Executive Vice-President Frans Timmermans and Commissioners for Transport Adina-Ioana Vălean, Energy Kadri Simson and Internal Market Thierry Breton, representatives from across the sustainable road transport value chain, including investors, users, technology providers and feedstock and fuel suppliers call for an integrated EU strategy for renewable sustainable fuels. A first step will be correcting vehicle CO2 standards to focus on net energy decarbonisation, rather than prescribing a top-down technology mandate focussed solely on tailpipe emissions.
